WORK METHODS
When valuable cultural and historical monuments are restored, such as (painted) stained glass windows, many things must be considered. Above all, professional craftsmanship is necessary. For each restoration project we utilize working methods specific for that project. The atelier is fully equipped to handle complex long-term projects. Windows to be restored are removed from their locations and transported to the atelier in Zoetermeer. In the atelier we can, under controlled conditions, do the appropriate restoration and conservation work. We have specialized tools and equipment as well as a large inventory of glass.Your project in the right hands
From the beginning Oud Rijswijk handled complete stained glass projects, from the development and proposal phase to the installation and follow-up. It is important to note that all the techniques that we use for restoration are reversible. The plan of approach and cost calculations are clear. For each project we maintain close contact with the client and any other concerned parties such as architects and construction firms. Proposals are made as realistic as possible so that the client knows precisely what s/he can expect. Throughout a project we keep in mind many aspects that are important but not always obvious, such as: air circulation, support systems, condensation formation, temperature variation, (noise) insulation and the potential for reaction between the different materials.
Professionalism
Glasatelier Oud Rijswijk BV is a quality glazier utilizing work methods that are based on skill, experience and the love of glass. The atelier seeks sustainable solutions. Our methods are based on guidelines from prominent organizations such as the Instituut Collectie Nederland (Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage), Rijksdienst voor de Monumentenzorg (Netherlands Department for Conservation), and the Technical Committee of the Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi. The atelier is a member of the Ondernemers Vereniging van Glazeniers (OVG - Entrepreneur’s Association of Glaziers). OVG members exchange information on new techniques and experiences in order to increase quality. Director Peter Heijman is currently the vice-president of the OVG.
Creativity, innovation and tradition go hand in hand
We continually strive to improve our products and services. We’ve developed specialized containers for the transport of glass panels. The glues, cleaning materials, cement and other materials are carefully selected and tested, and we’re constantly on the lookout for better alternatives. In testing new products we often work with the well-respected Instituut Collectie Nederland (Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage) in Amsterdam. Our customized solutions save energy, reduce noise and thwart vandalism through the use of appropriate protective glazing. The protective glass is set first in the window, and the stained glass window is then set on the interior of the protective glass allowing space for ventilation. The protective glazing can be tempered glass, structured glass or laminated glass, depending on the specific application. The guaranteed craftsmanship of Glasatelier Oud Rijswijk BV is indicated by the great satisfaction of our many clients (see our Portfolio).
